Shravan is an auspicious month in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva. The occasion is marked by a month long fast observed every Monday, known as 'Shravan Somwar'.

Special prayers and rituals are performed in temples all around the country, with devotees known as 'Kanwarias' travelling by foot to the origin of the Ganges to collect holy water.
